What ended up working for me is to either set the community asset installer to “Legacy CABs” as installation mode, or manually download the two following two CABs and put them into the /mods folder:
IIRC I had to make the Mods folder on my Steam version, too.
I am also a huge fan of the Portrait loader. Just wasn’t feeling the stock avatars.
This mod - BattleTech Extended 3025-3061 1.9.3.7 - Doesn’t work. I will explain what I mean by that. I download the zip, I open the zip, i then copy and paste ALL of the files into the mods folder located here - D:\Steam\steamapps\common\BATTLETECH\mods - When I launch the game the modtek throws up an error saying that about 15 mods did not load correctly. If I start a game i get an infinite load every time after trying to install this mod 4 times. Yes I know it takes a while to load all the files, that is why I waited a full 10 minutes before using Alt+F4. I also was able to successfully start a game using only modtek and the CAB mod, so that confirms it is this mod causing the problem.
I have experienced the same issue - if you go to the bottom of the log file, you can spot what mods are missing dependencies and what they are called.
It is actually the CAB-modpack that is missing mod files, which in turn causes BTE to fail.
If you reopen the CAB installer, open the dropdown menu beside ‘Cab installation mode’ and choose ‘Legacy Cab’ and then update your CAB library, it should fix your issue
@Haree78 might be an idea to add this to step 2 of installation as a workaround OR an installation troubleshoot (or maybe i missed it )
I’ve tried 4 times now to do as you said and each time the CAB installer failed with no reason why. I’ve included a pic of the errors I am getting at startup of the game.
If you reopen the CAB installer, open the dropdown menu beside ‘Cab installation mode’ and choose ‘Legacy Cab’ and then update your CAB library, it should fix your issue as Nissen mentions above
It didn’t, that’s why I posted the pic of the errors
If the cab is failing that’s probably the reason it’s not working. Have you tried a fresh install and doing the legacy. That’s what it took for me and also making sure everything was on the same hd.
Everything is on the same SDD & this IS a fresh install
To be completely honest, it would help if the MOD AUTHOR would up date the frigging mod
After experiencing gromulos’s same issues, I used F0DDA’s fix mentioned and all works well now.
For people suffering problems installing the CAB on the Legacy CABs option, I only succeeded on the third try. Same settings every try.
It just doesn’t always seem to work, which considering the amount of data to download is not really that surprising, but is also quite frustrating. If at first you don’t succeed, I’d suggest to try, try again.
After 3 failed tries to do it suggested way, just installed BT Extended 1.9.3.7, then tried running it without CAB, and got the same list of failed loads. So it doesn’t appear that CAB is responsible, at least to me.
Another thing I noticed. When I started it without CAB, it showed the BattleTech Extended Start Page. But then I loaded CAB, and when I restarted, it had the original Page. I really want to try either Roguetech or anything that gives more mechs or more of the Inner Sphere, but the failures adding up really are discouraging.
I+m very unhappy…the Game don´t find the mods…
here the same errors with BattleTech Extended 3025-3061 1.9.3.7 + CAB Version 1.41…
By Game start same files error… i have 6th clean Games install, but ever same result.
I think this mod here is to old for the new CAB Version 1.41
So is this great mod now dead…
My OS is win11
A small but important notice, as players keep coming to the discord channel about installation issues with the same question.
A) BEX 1.9.3.7 has been outdated for several years and is no longer supported. Haree is working on 2.0, and this 2.0 is the current version. BEX modders like me, Kierk, mcb and others have migrated to 2.0 too. You can download it here: BEX Tactics MiE thread
B) If for some reason you still want to install 1.9.3.7, you need to either install CAB in Legacy mode, or, if you have already installed it in All mode, then add the unofficial patch from Kierk from here: BEX discord link, post about that patch.
This is not a true statement, that’s not how that works. Maybe update the mod description with the correct information?
Also this mod difficulty is all over the place, fighting against 8 to 12 mechs (which at least 4 of those are medium/heavies) and also turrets in a contract of 1.5 skulls is just plain ridiculous. And on top of that, you have to pay for drop tonnage making certain contracts unfeasible. This mod’s concept of difficulty is to overwhelm you with enemies which makes most (if not all) close combat builds unviable. This is not a well balanced mod. Btw this is just a criticism of the mod (just to be clear in ca, nothing more.
Capture base 2.5 skulls mission
Enemies:
1 Catapult (65T 4ML 2LRM15)
1 Dervish (55T 2LRM10 2ML 2SRM2)
1 Hunchback (50T 1AC20 2ML 1SL)
1 Vindicator (45T)
1 Wolverine (55T 1AC5 1ML 1SRM6)
1 Spider (25T)
1 Stinger (25T)
4 medium torrets (150+ hp with LRM LL PPC etc)
All at once!
And here is the catch… hehe…
If you bring more tonnage to the mission than the ‘visible’ skull rating 2.5 then the game adds additional lances! And like I said before you have to pay 550cbills per tonnage above 80 tons. Ridiculous!
This is artificial difficulty for which there is no valid strategy, except for hitting the withdraw button only to incentivize grinding. GRIND GRIND GRIND! I give this mod a 2.5/5 due to its steep difficulty curve. Way overrated modpack. /rant
If you, like me, want to just enjoy the game, avoid the grind and have a reasonable enough challenge open and edit:
*** …/DropsCostPerMech/mod.json**:
“CostByTons” : true
“cbillsPerTon” : 750
“freeTonnageAmount” : 180
*…/MissionControl/settings.json:

“GuardOnHotDrop”: true

—> under “ExtendedLances”:
“Enable”: false

—> under “Spawners”:
“MinBuffer”: 30
“MaxBuffer”: 120
It won’t fix every aspect of the unbalanced difficulty, but it’s a start.
And while you’re at it do yourself a favor and install (since this modpack doesn’t include them):
BattleTech Quality of Life
BetterHeadlights
Show Mech Affinity
CrystalClear
How is SurvivableArms working with this? bc modtek 4.0?
